TagEnergy and Vestas will co-develop 220 MW wind portfolio in Spain
The joint venture will see Vestas acting as lead developer, while TagEnergy will draw on its experience developing wind farms to determine and shape the most cost-efficient model.
TagEnergy will also leverage its battery energy storage systems (BESS) expertise, gained through more than 270 MW of BESS under construction in the UK, to lead potential hybridisation of the projects to help stabilise the grid.
The co-development agreement in Spain deepens the already successful relationship between the Portugal-based independent power producer and Vestas, which began with the 756 MW Golden Plains Wind Farm – East, stage one of TagEnergy’s landmark 1,300 MW Golden Plains Wind Farm project in Victoria, Australia. TagEnergy appointed Vestas as the lead engineering, procurement and construction provider, and long-term service and maintenance supplier for the first stage of the project.
“We are thrilled to join forces again with our proven partner Vestas to bring our joint capabilities to Spain as we work to speed the transition to renewable energy and bring more affordable and reliable power supply to more people in more places,” says TagEnergy Deputy CEO, Jean-Baptiste Fournier. “Spain is an increasingly important part of TagEnergy’s family of projects as we work towards a renewables-dominated energy future. While these are our first wind projects in Spain, we are already developing two solar PV plants in Murcia in the south-east, and the 100 MW Tabiella BESS project in Asturias in the country’s northwest.”
Vestas Senior Vice President Development EMEA & LATAM, Íñigo Sabater, says “We are really pleased to partner with TagEnergy to develop these projects, which are being designed for Vestas technology. Our collaboration showcases how Vestas’ technical expertise in each and every segment of the lifecycle of a wind project can create new business opportunities for our customers across the world.”
Vestas Development holds around 30 GW of wind capacity in its pipeline and has already obtained over 6.6 GW of firm projects from development activities. By developing new renewable energy assets, Vestas contributes to accelerate the clean energy transition while bringing significant benefits to local communities, through green job creation and economic development.
