Nexans to connect Orkney Islands to Scottish Mainland

The Orkney Islands have made significant investments to use renewable energy in recent years. Existing and planned renewable energy projects on the islands will generate more electricity than can be consumed or exported with the existing grid infrastructure, making it neccessary to build a new transmission link.

The approximately 100km of 220kV AC subsea and land cables supplied by Nexans will play a decisive role in the energy transition in the UK. "This agreement marks a significant milestone for Nexans and we look forward to collaborating closely with SSEN Transmission,” said Pascal Radue, EVP Generation and Transmission at Nexans.
