News Release from Prysmian
Wind Industry Profile of
Prysmian Group at Reuters’ Offshore Wind conference in Boston (11-12 July)
Prysmian Group, world leader in the energy and telecom cable systems industry, on the occasion of the US Offshore Wind 2023 held in Boston, MA, on 11-12 July, confirms its commitment to the US energy transition supporting the country’s growing offshore wind market.
Prysmian is already a key player in the US offshore wind industry, having provided its cable solutions for some of the most iconic projects. Indeed, the Group has recently announced that installation of two 220 kV HVAC three-pole submarine cables for the Vineyard Wind Project has been successfully completed, and that operations are proceeding in line with the project schedule.
As H. Ozmen, EVP Projects BU, will highlight in his keynote presentation on 11 July at the Offshore Wind 2023 event, “Despite the current difficult macroeconomic scenario of the US offshore wind market, Prysmian Group confirms its commitment to make available its expertise and cutting-edge technologies to strengthen its footprint with the aim of meeting the needs of sustainable energy development in the United States."
As already announced, Prysmian is building Brayton Point plant, which will manufacture high-tech HV cables and will join the Group’s European centres of excellence located in Arco Felice, Italy, and Pikkala, Finland. The new plant will produce technologically excellent, high-tech submarine inter-array and export cables up to 275 kV AC and 525 kV DC to connect offshore wind farms to mainland power grids, and it is expected to create 50-80 construction jobs and 160-200 local high-skilled permanent jobs.
North America is a very strategic market for Prysmian Group, which in fact can already count on a strong presence in the US with 28 manufacturing facilities, 8 distribution centres, 6 R&D centres and more than 6,100 employees. Prysmian’s US track record includes major submarine cable interconnection projects such as Neptune, TransBay and Hudson Transmission, as well as recent offshore wind farm cabling projects that are already underway, such as Vineyard Wind Project, Empire Wind 1 and 2 and Coastal Virginia.
