Expanding local port capacity is critical to successfully delivering Norway’s offshore wind targets and first rounds of projects. To accommodate the first phase of Sørlige Nordsjø II of up to 1500 MW of offshore wind capacity, the required port capacity is estimated to be approximately 150.000-200.000 square meters.

Brigg Vind is formed by the companies Vårgrønn, Å Energi and Corio. Vårgrønn is Norway's largest pure-play offshore wind company, Å Energi is one of Norway's leading renewable energy companies, and Corio, headquartered in the UK, is an international offshore wind developer and a portfolio company of the Green Investment Group. Vårgrønn is the project manager for the Brigg Vind consortium.

In a joint statement, Olav Hetland, Vårgrønn CEO, Steffen Syvertsen CEO in Å Energi, and Ole Bigum Nielsen Head of Engineering & Construction at Corio said: “We are pleased that we have agreed a potential partnership with a strong, competent, and local partner who offers excellent facilities for Sørlige Nordsjø II and will contribute to creating positive local impacts in the region. The planned port facility is one of the nearest ports to Sørlige Nordsjø II and large areas are available for expansion of the port. Windport AS is owned by the local company Global Ocean Technology, an offshore and marine technology group based in the southern part of Norway.

Through the MoU, Brigg Vind aims to provide the support and competence Windport AS needs in order to initiate early-phase planning and investments with regards to innovative and competitive port infrastructure and services.

Øystein S. Pedersen, CEO Global Ocean Technology said: “We are very pleased to have signed an MoU with Brigg Vind. The experience and competence represented by the founding partners of Brigg Vind is of great value to Windport in our endeavor of developing an efficient and sustainable offshore wind port.”
