Honululu - Maui wind turbine distributor sold
A Maui-based distributor of wind turbines has been bought by a Colorado firm that specializes in renewable energy. Vista International Technologies Inc. said Friday it will buy all of the stock of Maui Energy Co. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Vista International Technologies, based in Englewood, Colo., sells waste-to-energy technologies, including its patented thermal gasifier system that converts solid waste into electricity and thermal energy.
Leo K. Caires, Maui Energy Co.'s owner and president, who launched the company in February 2007, will continue as president. "We are particularly excited about the deal as the Hawaiian Islands have been a main point of focus for Vista International's global development strategy," said CEO Barry Kemble in a prepared statement.
