Prysmian Group, world leader in the energy and telecom cable systems industry, confirms its commitment to support the growing offshore wind farm industry in the United States, which is expected to achieve a target of 40 GW installed capacity by 2035. At the ACP Offshore Windpower Conference and Exhibition to be inaugurated today in Boston, MA, the Group will be showcasing its state-of-the-art range of products and services for the offshore wind farm industry, including submarine power transmission cables that are 30% lighter, such as inter-array cables up to 66 kV and AC export cables up to 275 kV (three-core) and 400 kV (single-core). In addition, DC cable solutions up to 525 kVfor wind farms that are very distant from the shore will also be on display.

“Our goal is to support the region’s growing demand for offshore wind farm cabling solutions by offering our customers turnkey cable systems, engineering resources and a wide range of advanced installation assets and capabilities,” said Ozmen Hakan, EVP Projects Business, Prysmian Group.

Prysmian has been already awarded the Vineyard Wind 1, which will be the first utility-scale commercial wind farm in the US. It will power over 400,000 homes with energy from 62 turbines located off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts.

The rapid growth of the offshore wind farm industry is driving the need for next-generation cable-laying vessels and equipment. Prysmian Group has recently taken delivery of the record-breaking cable-laying vessel Leonardo da Vinci, which will allow more efficient and sustainable project execution. The Leonardo da Vinci is another way that Prysmian Group is seeking to be the go-to technology player, facilitating the production and transmission of cleaner, more intelligent, more efficient and more competitive energy.

The Group counts on a wide geographical presence in North America, with over 5,800 employees, 23 plants across the country, 6 R&D centres and a turnover of over $4 billion in 2020.
