New collaboration gives impetus to wind turbine project

Sønderborg Forsyning (public water, sewer, waste and heating utility) is entering into a collaboration with European Energy on the development of the nearshore wind farm, Little Belt South Wind Farm. The agreement helps Sønderborg Municipality to realize the City Council's ProjectZero vision of CO2 neutrality in 2029.

"It is a win-win situation for both parties", says Sønderborg Mayor Erik Lauritzen, who is also chairman of Lillebælt Vind A/S. “ While the State sets the framework for climate change, it is often the municipalities and the private companies that carry out the tasks with concrete initiatives. It is necessary for Denmark to be able to achieve our goals in the green transition, and the agreement helps to push the green transition”, says Erik Lauritzen.

European Energy is adding the necessary competencies to the maximum 160 MW wind farm to be developed and established by the company Lillebælt Vind A/S. A final partnership agreement with European Energy is expected in place before the end of the year.

Erik Lauritzen is very pleased to have European Energy on board on Little Belt South Wind Farm: "European Energy develops similar wind farms elsewhere in Denmark and the rest of Europe and has the skills needed to ensure that the Little Belt South Wind Farm becomes a success for the climate."

European Energy also looks forward to helping to realize the project: “We look forward to working with Sønderborg Forsyning to ensure the city the CO2-neutral electricity that will support the area's climate change until 2029. We are very pleased that Sønderborg Municipality demands our expertise in renewable energy projects, which we have a extensive experience of implementing all the way from design to grid connection, ” says Knud Erik Andersen, CEO and founder of the Danish company, European Energy, which is headquartered in Søborg near Copenhagen.

The realization of the project presupposes that an updated environmental impact assessment is prepared and that it is approved by the Danish Energy Agency, and that an establishment permit is subsequently granted.
