Wind Industry Profile of

ESVAGT, Triton Knoll and SDU collaborate on health and welfare for offshore wind farm

Welfare for technicians and crew is important to Triton Knoll. Collaboration with ESVAGT and SDU's Center of Maritime Health and Society ensures health and welfare in the Triton Knoll offshore wind farm.

Healthy employees are one of the key performance indicators as ESVAGT assists Triton Knoll in the installation of the Triton Knoll offshore wind farm in the North Sea, off the coast of Lincolnshire. Partnering with ESVAGT, the park owner is affiliating the Southern Denmark University’s (SDU) Center of Maritime Health and Society in a collaboration to ensure that the 120 employees responsible for the installation of the park are both healthy and safe:

‘The instigation and implementation of an effective package to strengthen the well-being of individuals working on our project has been a key aspect for Triton Knoll,’ Julian Garnsey, project director for Triton Knoll, said: ‘Our vision is to get everyone Home Safe. To look after each other’s safety and well-being is our absolute priority.’

Valuable knowledge

It was a requirement for ESVAGT to assist in carrying out a professional health campaign for the wind farm. To this end, ESVAGT has teamed up with researchers from SDU Center of Maritime Health and Society to create six workshops related to, among other things, diet, well-being, and mental health: ‘It is a comprehensive package targeted precisely at the initiatives that Triton Knoll wants special focus on’, says Asger Stürtzel Sørensen, Head of HSE at ESVAGT: ‘The welfare and well-being of technicians and crew is key to Triton Knoll. The project also offers a unique opportunity for Danish researchers to secure valuable knowledge and data,’ he said.

Lisa Loloma Froholdt, professor at SDU's Center of Maritime Health and Society, confirms: ‘For us, data is gold. We build our knowledge on data, so being part of this is of great value to us’, she added. Lisa Loloma Froholdt acknowledges the intention and effort: ‘Companies taking responsibility and action makes a difference. The mantra of the maritime sector is Safety First; it is practically tattooed on every sailor’s forehead. But well-being is an important aspect of safety. Ensuring that colleagues thrive and have a reasonable level of stress is enormously important, and I can only commend Triton Knoll and ESVAGT for taking the responsibility,’ she said.
