Denmark - Increase in wind turbine generated to increase Danish energy savings

A recently conducted energy analysis has determined that doubling the amount of wind turbine power would put an extra several million Danish crowns annually into the nation’s budget. According to a new study from the research and consultancy agency EA Energy Analyses Government plans to double the capacity of the nation’s wind turbines to cover half of Denmark’s power needs would result in annual savings of 40 million crowns. The Liberal-Conservative government, which commissioned the study together with the Danish Wind Industry Association, has proposed increasing wind-power capacity to 6,000 megawatts by 2025 - twice the current output.

The study indicated the project would require net-infrastructure investments totaling some 500 million crowns over 16 years. The also analysis indicated that 63 million crowns annually would be saved, if a majority of the nation’s current coal-fuelled power was replaced by wind power. The Danish Finance Ministry has put together its own estimate of the project’s costs and came up with a figure of five billion crowns annually.
