All Contracts on Cables and Converters for Viking Link Signed

The two grid operators in Denmark and the UK, Energinet and National Grid, have signed all contracts for the construction of the interconnector Viking Link between the two countries.

The 1400 MW interconnector will flow power between the UK and Denmark from the end of 2023.

Italian company Prysmian was awarded the contract for the 625 km submarine cables and the 67 km land cables in the UK, while Danish cable manufacturer NKT was awarded the contract on the 76 km land cables in Denmark. Siemens will build the two converter stations.

Together, these contracts represent a value of EUR 1.1 billion, says Energienet.
