Start of construction at two onshore wind farms in Turkey to add a total output of 210 megawatts

Borusan EnBW Enerji signs turbine supply contracts with GE and Vestas

The German-Turkish joint venture Borusan EnBW Enerji, in which the partners EnBW and Borusan each hold a 50% stake, remains on track for growth through the expansion of renewable energies in Turkey. The signing of turbine supply contracts for the construction of the Saros onshore wind farm and the expansion of the Kiyiköy onshore wind farm marked the beginning of the realisation of a further 210 megawatts of output from wind energy. After completion of both projects by the end of 2020, the installed capacity of onshore wind power of Borusan EnBW Enerji will increase to 646 megawatts.

The Saros onshore wind farm with an output of 138 megawatts and an annual production of 530 gigawatt hours is currently one of the biggest wind farm projects in Turkey. The turbine supply contract with GE, which was concluded at the beginning of July, comprises 27 Cypress 5.X MW class turbines with a rotor diameter of 158 meters.

The Kiyiköy wind farm with an output of 28 megawatts has already been in operation since 2015. The project to expand the wind farm by 72 megawatts means that it will generate a total output of 100 megawatts with annual production of 280 gigawatt hours in future.

Borusan EnBW Enerji, with headquarters in Istanbul, was founded in the summer of 2009 as a joint venture between EnBW and the Turkish company Borusan. The aim of the joint venture is to expand the Turkish generation capacity in the area of renewable energies. EnBW and Borusan currently have generation plants with a total output of around 495 megawatts in operation in Turkey, which mainly comprise onshore wind turbines (436 megawatts) but also a hydropower plant (50 megawatts) and two solar parks (8.8 megawatts).
