Canada - Baie-des-Sables wind farm produces electricity

The wind farm's 73 turbines represent a total installed capacity of 109.5 megawatts (MW)

Cartier Wind Energy (BDS) inc. "Cartier") is pleased to announce the official inauguration of the Baie-des-Sables wind farm, located in the Regional County Municipality (RCM)of Matane and the RCM of Mitis. Minister of Natural Resources and Wildlife, Mr. Pierre Corbeil and other dignitaries attended the ceremony to mark the beginning of commercial operations of the first wind farm from Hydro-Québec
Distribution's call for tenders. The wind farm's 73 turbines, representing a total installed capacity of 109.5 megawatts (MW), produces enough electricity to meet the needs of more than 21,000 households on an annual basis.

"The construction of the wind farm and its commercial in-service was completed on schedule and focused on regional economic development," said Finn Greflund, President of Cartier. "The project employed an average of 175 workers at the site and more than 80 per cent of the workforce came from the region. We would like to recognize the whole team that worked to complete the wind farm and thank everyone for their participation in this achievement."

"This would not have been a success without the support of the whole
population of Baie-des-Sables and Métis-sur-Mer; we thank them for their collaboration in the implementation of this important wind farm. We hope that our positive experience at Baie-des-Sables will inspire wind energy development in Québec," declared Gilles Lefrançois, Chairman of the Board of Cartier.

The construction of the Baie-des-Sables wind farm began in spring 2006. The investment represents a budget of $164 million of which more than 40 per cent was spent in the region of the RCM of Matane and Gaspésie-îles-de-la-Madeleine, as per the power purchase agreement. During the operation of the wind farm, 10 people will work to ensure the maintenance and operations of the wind farm, and the Baie-des-Sables and Métis-sur-Mer municipalities will receive more than $2.9 million in voluntary contributions over 21 years. Cartier is already working on its second wind farm at l'Anse-à-Valleau, which is expected to be in service in fall 2007.

Cartier Wind Energy, which is headquartered in Longueuil, is a partnership of TransCanada Corporation and Innergex II Income Fund. Cartier was awarded 740 MW in wind energy projects from Hydro-Québec's first wind energy call for tenders for projects that will be developed from 2006 to 2012. Cartier Wind Energy's projects represent an investment of more than $1.1 billion.
