MEDIA INVITATION-The Technology Platform for Wind Energy Takes Off
On 19 October, Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs and MEP Mechtild Rothe will speak at the launch of the Technology Platform for Wind Energy (TPWind). The platform is initiated by the European wind energy sector to maintain continued European leadership through basic and applied research.
The first objective of the technology platform is to map out the priorities for wind energy research up to 2030 and to direct public and private funding towards targeted research areas. TPWind will also create new opportunity for closer collaboration among Member States, including those less developed in wind energy terms.
'Bringing together stakeholders from industry, government, civil society, R&D Institutions, finance organisations, the wider power sector - at Member State and EU levels, this body will be unique: We need to dramatically improve the effectiveness of collaborative research in wind energy, and to develop effective public private partnerships through the technology platform approach. We need to co-ordinate policy and technology research at EU and Member State level to pave the way for a sustainable energy future,' said Professor Arthouros Zervos, President of the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA), also member of the Platform Advisory Council.
You are welcome to join the technology platform launch which will take place in the premises of the European Commission, Charlemagne Building, on Thursday 19 October from 9.00 to 2.00 (lunch foreseen).
