Turkey - Wind energy capacity boosted

The new facility will have the capacity to meet all the energy needs of Bandirma, a city of nearly 100,000.

Turkey has boosted its alternative energy credentials with the opening of a wind energy facility in the north western city of Bandirma Monday. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan was on hand at the official opening ceremony of the Bandirma Wind Power Plant. “Turkey is very rich in alternative energy resources,” he said in his address at the ceremony. “This power plant proves this.”

With the opening of the Bandirma facility Turkey’s wind power generation capacity has more than doubled, rising from 20 megawatts to 50 megawatts. “Such facilities are very important environmentally, as well as from the point of diversifying Turkey’s energy resources,” the Prime Minister said. “This power plant will produce 120-million kilowatt-hour energy annually. This amount can meet electricity need of Bandirma with its population of 97,000.”
