Wind Industry Profile of
3rd International Community Wind Symposium 2018 and Community Power Forum

The World Wind Energy Association (WWEA) and LEE NRW in cooperation with EnergieAgentur.NRW and Genossenschaftsverband invite you to join for the 3rd International Community Wind Symposium 2018 and Community Power Forum on 6 September 2018 in Bonn (Germany).
The focus of this year’s symposium will be on innovation and new business models. Numerous international and German experts, amongst them representatives of community projects and associations, politicians, researchers and other relevant community power stakeholders are expected.
Following last year’s International Community Wind symposium with more than 100 experts and practitioners from 20 countries, the event will start with the presentation of the most recent WWEA and LEE NRW study on potentials and challenges for community wind in NRW and Germany. Experts will explore new, innovative approaches for marketing electricity from community wind farms and will in this context also touch areas such as transportation or heating.
After leaving the grounds of the German case, the symposium will focus on international implications and cases, with a special panel presenting opportunities and challenges of community energy on the African continent. Speakers from several European countries, from Algeria, Australia, Japan, Mali, USA and Zimbabwe have already confirmed their attendance.

The Symposium will take place on the occasion of the IRENA Innovation Week which happens from 5-7 September 2018 in Bonn. More information about the IRENA Innovation Week is available on: http://innovationweek.irena.org/
Background:
For WWEA, community power plays an important role as community and citizen-owned renewable energies offer huge potentials for strengthening local communities, combating poverty and for improving livelihoods. Therefore WWEA sees it as one of its key tasks to highlight the role of community power worldwide and to ensure that such models can play their role on a large scale.
