Race Bank offshore wind farm off the east coast of England delivers first power

Race Bank wind farm off the coast of Norfolk will consist of 91 Siemens turbines with a capacity of 6 MW each. For the first time now electricity from the offshore project was fed into the national grid.

For the first time, too, an amount of rotor blades will be provided by Siemens' new factory in Hull which was built specifically for the British market by the German offshore market leader. The blades from Hull are expected on site in the coming weeks.

Klaus Skoust Møller, project developer DONG Energy, said: "I’m delighted we’ve reached first power at Race Bank, which is an important milestone that proves every part of the transmission and generation equipment at the wind farm is successfully working. Construction is progressing well and on schedule.”

Race Bank will produce 573 MW of electricity after completion - a capacity to meet the annual electricity needs of more than half a million British households.
