South Wales wind farm development nears completion
Leading civil engineering firm Jones Bros is currently carrying out reinstatement work at the six-turbine Mynydd Portref wind farm, which is located between Brynna and Hendreforgan in Rhondda Cynon Taff. Current activity includes removing the blades storage areas and the assist crane pads, and re-top soiling those areas as well as verges and any other areas disturbed during the 12-month project.
Jones Bros site agent Rhys Roberts said: “The team on site have done a fantastic job to keep the scheme on schedule throughout the year. Assembly of the six turbines were completed just before Christmas and are currently being commissioned. We will be on site until the end of March while the remaining reinstatement work is carried out.”
The 12MW wind farm project, carried out on behalf of client REG Power Management, is expected to generate around 30GWh per year. Jones Bros also laid 3.8km of site tracks as part of the works.
North Wales-based Jones Bros has developed considerable expertise in constructing wind farms in a wide range of terrains. Founded in the 1950s and employing almost 350 people, Jones Bros has grown rapidly in the last decade. It is currently working on contracts in various sectors including the construction of waste management facilities, highways, flood and marine defence and renewable energy projects around the UK.
