Wind Industry Profile of


Consortium headed by Galp Energia and REpower hand over bid for the Portuguese Government Tender covering 1.500 MW

Hamburg/Lisbon, March 1st, 2006. The consortium headed by the Portuguese Energy Company Galp Energia, has submitted its bid by the holding company Ventinveste that was founded for this purpose in the mean time for a government call to tender to supply a total of 1,500 megawatts of wind power. A press conference was held in Lisbon today regarding the bid. The consortium consists of GALP, Grupo Enersis, Martifer, REpower Portugal and REpower Systems AG as well as of EFACEC, a manufacturer of electric components.

The total capacity of the tender for 1,500 megawatts will be divided into lots of approx. 800 to 1,000 megawatts and approx. 400 to 500 megawatts. The decision for the dedication of the tender has been officially announced for July 2006. The timeframe for implementation shall be five years and it shall begin from 2008. In case the consortium should be awarded the tender, REpower considers to set up local blade manufactory and production facilities in Portugal.

Pieter Wasmuth, CFO of the REpower Systems AG Management Board, explained today in Lisbon that “with this tender, we are bidding for one of the most important projects for the future of Portuguese energy policy to make the country more independent from energy imports and to fulfil the European energy targets. Together with Galp Energia and our Portuguese Partner Martifer Energia we are confident to provide a good basis to compete for this tender- with German technology know-how and Portuguese creativity”.

CEO of Galp Energia, Jorge Borrego, added, “We are glad that we found in REpower a partner, who fulfils our demands for proven technology and reliability.
