GL Wind presents "Guideline for the certification of wind turbines"

Piraeus / Hamburg, 27 February 2006 - All wind energy projects have to undergo extensive tests for their site-specific conditions from a safety viewpoint: Thanks to the "Guideline for the certification of wind turbines", owners, investors, banks and insurers are put in the comforting position of being able to minimize their risks and initiate corrective measures at an early stage. GL Wind presents the guideline at the European Wind Energy Conference in Athens.

The comprehensive wind guidelines cover the general testing conditions, safety systems and the requirements for manufacturing companies. Strength analyses, machinery components and electrical engineering are considered as much as the tests, periodic inspections and condition monitoring. In addition, they contain a large number of interesting innovations: They include a complete description of the modules for project certification, a presentation of the major IEC and CENELEC standards and a multitude of practical pointers on turbine operation and safety.

The first measurement results obtained from the research platform FINO 1 are presented in a poster session: GL Wind compares the results from the wind and wave measurements with the design criteria and the design values as defined in the certification guidelines.
Furthermore, investigations of scouring effects were conducted in August 2005 in the immediate vicinity of FINO 1. Divers were able to discover signs of scouring at the four foundation piles and under the cross-ties of the jackets.

Poster session on Tuesday, 28 February, at 2:00 and 3:30 p.m.:

  • Kimon Argyriadis: "Research Platform FINO 1 - Some Measurement Results" (BL 3.418)

  • Mike Wöbbeking: "IEC WT 01 - Developments of the Second Edition and Innovations in Certification of Wind Turbines" (BL 3.226)

  • Frederike Reher: "Wind farm performance verification procedures" (BL 3.216)

  • Detlef Kindler: "Use of inclination angle sensors mounted to cup anemometers for power performance tests acc. IEC 61400-12-1" (BL 3.218)

Meet the Managing Directors of GL Wind, Christian Nath and Bodo Helm, as well as the Managing Director of WINDTEST, Volker Köhne, at stand no. 364.
