India - Kurnool foresees wind power stations
The prospects for the development of wind power stations in Kurnool district was found to be exceedingly good. The hill range extending from Kolimigundla to Jammulamadugu in the Kadapa district has the potential to generate 400 mw from wind power. The wind velocity survey established that mean velocity in Kolimigundla area was between 26 and 40 kmph as against the commercially viable velocity of 20 kmph. Also, the velocity was recorded for over 100 days in a year while 80 days was minimum period required for commercial exploitation. Now, windmills with a capacity of 20 mw are being installed. These are likely to start functioning soon. Ramagiri, Kadavakallu and Tallimadugula in Anantapur district, ondameedipalli in Kurnool, Tirumala in Chittoor and Nellore are identified as potential areas for generation of wind power in the State
