Wind Industry Profile of

Combined Ultrasound Sensor u[sonic] - Precision meets Design

Whether it is a gentle breeze or a violent storm, with the ultrasound sensor u[sonic] everything revolves around the wind direction and speed. Wind speed can be measured up to 75 m/s, the measuring instrument itself does not move at all in this process.

This wear-free and robustly designed innovation works on the basis of ultrasonic measuring sensors and measures wind data with high levels of precision. The innovation was developed in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute. When developing this sensor particular consideration has been given to highest quality for fulfilment of meteorological requirements.

This seawater resistant sensor u[sonic] is perfectly heated and ideal for use under cold climate conditions; operating conditions with heating are -50…+70°C. The extreme robust, compact sensor has a high-quality, pollutant-resistant housing made of hard anodized aluminium and stainless steel.

The equipment is connected by an 8 pole screw connector. The compact design of the sensor u[sonic] is eliminating the installation work significantly, and it is also easy to maintain. The measured values can be requested over a variety of interfaces. Measuring data are automatically transmitted via serial interface RS 485 in talker mode, when power supply is switched on.

Another advantage of this ultrasound sensor is the built-in test function - overall the u[sonic] is the perfect sensor for all kind of applications such as: onshore and offshore applications, wind turbines, railway line monitoring, traffic meteorology, chemical and industrial facilities etc.
