Wind Industry Profile of

Brazil: Gamesa's G114-2.0 MW turbine obtains BNDES local-content certification

This certification reinforces Gamesa's positioning in this market, guaranteeing access to the bank's financing lines.

BNDES (the acronym in Portuguese for the National Bank for Economic and Social Development) has certified that Gamesa's G114-2.0 MW turbine, and its 2.1 MW version, comply with the FINAME code, which stipulates a series of local manufacturing requirements for OEMs operating in Brazil, thereby qualifying it for access to the development bank's lines of financing.

Gamesa will manufacture this new model in its nacelle factory, located in Camaçari (Bahia) from 2016; in parallel, it is working with local suppliers for the manufacture of the turbine the towers and blades. The first order for the G114-2.0 MW in Brazil was signed at the end of 2014 and, in less than 18 months, all its parts already comply with the BNDES requirements. Gamesa has already certified another of its turbines under the BNDES requirements: the G97-2.0 MW.

"This milestone is the result of a lot of hard work on our part and demonstrates Gamesa's commitment to continuing to invest in the production of turbines tailored to the needs of the Brazilian market, facilitated by qualification for support from key programmes such as the BNDES credit facilities", said Edgard Corrochano, Gamesa's Managing Director in Brazil, who went on to add, "procurement of this certification for the G114-2.0 MW evidences, once again, Gamesa's commitment to its customers in Brazil".

Gamesa's G114-2.0 MW is designed to yield more power at lower cost at low and medium wind speed sites, which is why it is particularly suitable for the low-turbulence wind conditions encountered in Brazil. The pipeline for this product in Brazil - firm orders for delivery in the years to come - already stands at over 800 MW.
