Germany: AMBAU starts fabrication of Nordergründe towers

From November this year onwards AMBAU in Cuxhaven starts to fabricate the 43m long tower sections which are resulting from an integrated design approach of tower, transition piece and monopile foundation by Senvion and AMBAU. The remaining required tower length will be realized by a combined tower-TP (Long-TP).

In addition to the tower sections AMBAU will also produce the Transition Pieces and Monopiles for Nordergründe and thus for the first time ever the complete steel structure below the nacelle for a complete windfarm. The whole steel part from the nacelle down to the seabed has an end-to-end diameter of 5,5m. The total weight is about 10,500 tonnes.

The Nordergründe Wind Farm is being constructed at a depth of 10 metres within the 12-nautical mile zone of the German North Sea and is located approximately 15 kilometres north-east of the island of Wangerooge. 6 MW-class turbines are to be used at a nominal output of around 110 MW.
