News Release from World Wind Energy Association e.V. (WWEA)

Global: Worldwide Wind Statistics - Special Edition of WWEA Bulletin 2-2015 now available as e-version

The special edition of the WWEA Bulletin focuses on the worldwide wind statistics

The latest edition of the WWEA Bulletin was published on the occasion of the WWEC2015 in Jerusalem, now also the electronic version is available on the WWEA homepage: http://www.wwindea.org/wwea-bulletin-special-issue-2015/

The special edition of the WWEA Bulletin focuses on the worldwide wind statistics: It includes detailed statistics and installation figures from more than 100 countries as of end of the year 2014. Together with international experts, WWEA has analyzed the regional and continental deployment rates of wind power and the conclusions are presented as well.

In addition, updated statistics as of mid-2015 are included as well, based on the world’s 15 largest wind markets. The statistics show that wind power stands still for a great success story - both years 2014 (371 GW global capacity) and 2015 (393 GW by June 2015 - 428 GW expected end of 2015) mark new records in installations!

These statistics are reflecting the installations in larger, grid-connected wind farms. Hence it is very important also to be able to present some insights into the market for off grid electrification systems: WWEA conducted a survey amongst investors in rural electrification systems, with a special focus on West African markets. Interesting results and conclusions from this report are presented in the bulletin as well. Lack of comprehensive policies, lack of access to finance and lack of trained experts have been identified as the main barriers for the deployment, while the technologies do exist.

A historic overview of the development of the Chinese wind market in the 21st century is given by WWEA President Emeritus Dr. Preben Maegaard, who has closely worked since many years with many of the key players in China.
