AMBAU produces 18 monopiles and transition pieces for the Nordergründe Wind Farm

AMBAU GmbH has been assigned by OWP Nordergründe GmbH & Co. KG with the design and manufacture of 18 monopiles and transition pieces

Since December 2014 the specialists at AMBAU have been working on the design and engineering of 18 monopiles and transition pieces for the Nordergründe Offshore Wind Farm. Now, AMBAU has also received an order for the construction of the foundations. Manufacturing will commence at the AMBAU site in Cuxhaven in October 2015 and last until March 2016.

The monopiles have a diameter of 5.5 metres and a maximum wall thickness of 60 millimetres, an average weight of around 370 tonnes and a maximum length of 56 metres. In total, over 10,000 tonnes of steel are to be used in the foundations, including secondary steel.

The Nordergründe Wind Farm is being constructed at a depth of 10 metres within the 12-nautical mile zone of the German North Sea and is located approximately 15 kilometres north-east of the island of Wangerooge. 6 MW-class turbines are to be utilised, with a nominal output of around 110 MW. Installation and commissioning are set to take place in 2016.
