Offshore Wind Ticker - Carillion signs contract for an onshore HV connection for the Rampion Offshore Wind Farm

The project will involve the installation of cable over a distance of approximately 26km from landfall near Shoreham on Sea to Bolney, West Sussex. The £1.3bn Rampion Offshore Wind Farm being built by energy company E.ON, alongside partners the UK Green Investment Bank plc (GIB) will provide enough energy to power around 300,000 homes each year.

The new cable system will connect the subsea cable that will take the power from the offshore wind turbines to a new substation to transform the power to 400kV to connect to the transmission grid at Bolney. The contract will involve the design, supply and installation of 160km of 150kV cable and associated jointing accessories.

As part of the project, Carillion will undertake civil engineering and cable installation activities. The cable route passes through the South Downs National Park and so a sympathetic and proactive approach to the management of the project will be key to successful delivery.

The award of this project follows on from Carillion's success in being awarded the Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm onshore cabling project and it reinforces Carillion's position as a leading transmission and distribution contractor in the UK.

The onshore cabling project will start immediately and is scheduled for completion in late 2016.
