Tembra introduces new concept for main component exchange

On Tuesday, 5th of May, TEMBRA presented one of its new development projects at Windmesse Symposium in Hamburg

Aim of development is a manufacturer independently applicable platform, which can be used on every wind turbine on a tubular steel tower. With this platform cost- and time-savings can be achieved in comparison to usual gearbox- or generator exchanges, as operation of a mobile heavy duty crane is avoided completely.

Due to several days of mounting and unmounting the crane and high logistic efforts, renting a heavy duty crane usually makes up the majority of the total costs of a component exchange. In addition to this, low availability for this type of crane causes long turbine standstill and therefore yield losses. Defective flexibility on site regarding access routes, crane site and manoeuvering possibilities complicate the operation even more.

TEMBRA tower crane is putting it right

A structure assembled in only a few steps, which is able to climb the tower of the turbine autonomously, contains many advantages. Next to avoiding crane costs, this solution is far easier and faster to transport and offers operational capability on every site, even without densified crane spots or in a narrow forest.

Process of development in full swing

Verifying the load capacity of the tower shell was quite a challenge. For certification process, simulating the occurring stresses and deformations is inevitable. But still, the concept is proving its virtues and redirects the additional loads into the tower sheets perfectly, without any critical stress for them.

Reaction to pressure on service

With the development TEMBRA reacts on tougher conditions on the turbine service market. The demand for more flexible and especially cheaper service operations is stronger than ever. In common with service providers the development shall now be brought to prototype maturity.
