Gamesa lands a contract to supply 50 MW in Uruguay and maintain the turbines for five years

The company will install 25 of its G114-2.0 MW turbines at the Maldonado II wind farm, located in south-eastern Uruguay

Gamesa has signed a new contract with the Spanish developer Smartener for the supply of 50 MW at the Maldonado II wind farm, in Uruguay.

The agreement reached with Smartener encompasses the supply, installation and commissioning of 25 of its G114-2.0 MW turbines at this wind farm, located in the departments of Maldonado and Lavalleja in south-eastern Uruguay. Gamesa will also provide the facility's O&M services under a five-year agreement. Delivery of the turbines is expected to begin in November and the wind farm's construction is slated for completion during the second quarter of 2016.

This new order implies the extension of the first phase of Maldonado wind farm, also developed by Smartener and already operational, where Gamesa installed 25 of its G97-2.0 MW in 2013.

This is Gamesa's first contract in Uruguay for the installation of the G114-2.0 MW, a new turbine model designed to yield more power at lower cost at low and medium wind speed sites.

To date, Gamesa has installed 150 MW in Uruguay. According to the consultant BTM, capacity in this market is poised to register triple-digit growth rates, potentially installing 1.4 GW by 2016. Gamesa is also present in other Latin American markets, including Mexico, Brazil, Honduras, Argentina and Costa Rica, where it has installed close to 3,000 MW. The region accounted for 34% of total sales volume (by MW) in 2014.
