A new organisational structure to support the future strategy of Vattenfall

Vattenfall on Thursday announced a new organisational structure and executive management team as key steps in ensuring the right structure to support Vattenfall’s future strategy.

Vattenfall is to create a dedicated wind business unit as part of a new organisational structure designed to meet a "challenging market environment".

The new unit will work across geographies including the UK, Germany, Netherlands, Denmark and Vattenfall's home country of Sweden. It will start work on 1 April and cover onshore and offshore wind.

There will be no new job losses associated with the rejig and savings targets will remain as already announced, said Vattenfall.

In addition to the wind business other units will include heat, customers and solutions, distribution, generation and markets. The utility was previously organised on a regional basis.

Vattenfall will develop a detailed strategy for each unit, driven by a new executive management team that includes head of wind Gunnar Groebler.

The starting point for the new structure, according to chief executive Magnus Hall (pictured), is meeting the demands of the current business environment.

"To focus our efforts it is imperative to make choices going forward. The first step is to lay out our general strategic direction and to me some things are obvious: we must defend our position as a European company, we should develop our offerings for customers to become sustainable, and we will be an electricity producer that concentrates on emission-free or emission-efficient solutions," he said.

"The (six) business areas will be empowered with refining the strategy and incorporating it into plans and actions. Focus will be on actual business as well as on cross-border synergies,” added Hall.

Vattenfall’s new executive management team:

  • Magnus Hall, President and Chief Executive Officer
  • Ingrid Bonde, Head of Staff Function Finance and Deputy CEO
  • Anne Gynnerstedt, Head of Staff Function Legal & CEO Office
  • Andreas Regnell, Head of Staff Function Strategic Development

  • Gunnar Groebler, Head of Business Area Wind
