IEA chief: Europe "risks losing its position as a renewable energy leader"

Europe risks losing its top spot in renewable energy if it does not invest sufficiently in grid and market integration, IEA executive director Maria van der Hoeven stated recently.

She will speak further at the opening of the EWEA 2014 Annual Event on 10-13 March, which will focus on how wind energy companies could “get back to business”.

For the Portuguese energy minister, who will also give a keynote speech, an essential condition for boosting business and green growth is an ambitious and binding 2030 renewables target.

What about the industry in Spain itself? Is it on its last legs or can it “get back to business”? On Monday 10 March at 12:30 Spanish and European political and industry experts will hold a press conference on “Over and out? What’s next for the Spanish wind energy industry.”  Register now

CEOs of leading industry companies such as Alstom Wind, Gamesa, Acciona Energy, ERG Renew, Enel Green Power, EDP Renováveis and Iberdrola will discuss what they are already doing to get back to business in a panel debate, followed by a press conference on 11 March at 10:30.

You can also sign up for a free press place on a visit to a local wind farm, followed by a cocktail and networking opportunity. For more information register for the event now and email Sarah Azau, European Wind Energy Association: sarah.azau@ewea.org

The EWEA 2014 Annual Event will run from 10 to 13 March, Fira de Barcelona Gran Via, Spain.
