Mexico - Alstom is to supply 34 wind turbines to its first wind power project iin the country

Alstom has been awarded a contract with ENEL Green Power Mexico for the supply and commissioning of 34 wind turbines at the new Sureste I–Stage II power generation plant in the Tehuantepec Isthmus, Oaxaca, Mexico

The project, awarded to ENEL by the Federal Electricity Commission under the “external energy producer” scheme, is the first wind power project in Mexico for Alstom.

The Sureste I, Stage II wind farm, which will be fully operational at the end of 2014, will generate more than 350 GW/h a year, equivalent to the total amount of energy used by more than 60,000 people, as well as reducing CO2 emissions by 238 metric tons a year. Mexico, which currently has installed wind power capacity of 1.4 GW, has established a target of 12 GW in wind power capacity by the year 2020.

“Alstom is happy to contribute to the diversification of energy sources in the country and to take an active part in helping the country achieve the targets established by authorities to increase the amount of power generated from sustainable resources in the national energy-mix”, said Alfonso Faubel, Senior Vice President of Alstom Wind.

The farm will be equipped with 3MW wind turbines, from Alstom’s ECO 100 wind turbine platform. They incorporate Alstom Pure Torque® technology, a rotor support concept that protects the drive train and other components from deflection loads. This ensures higher reliability and performance while reducing maintenance costs.
Alstom has installed more than 2,500 turbines in over 150 wind farms around the world, supplying more than 4,000 MW of energy. Alstom designs and manufactures 1.67 to 6 megawatt onshore and offshore wind turbines, while providing solutions for all geographic and weather conditions.
