Siemens wins wind power order from Japan

Siemens Energy has been awarded an onshore wind power order for the Akita Port wind power project on the north west coast of the Japanese island Honshu.

Hamburg, March 18th, 2013 - The customer is Eurus Energy Holdings Corporation, Japan's largest wind power developer. The scope of supply includes the delivery and installation of 6 direct-drive wind turbines of the type SWT-3.0-101, with an output of three Megawatts (MW) and a rotor diameter of 101 meter. The deal also includes a service agreement. Installation and commissioning of the wind turbines is scheduled for summer 2014.

"Japan is one of the most attractive emerging wind markets in the Asia-Pacific region. We are proud to contribute to the development of wind power in Japan with our innovative direct-drive technology," said Kay Weber, CEO of the Business Unit APAC in the Wind Power Division of Siemens Energy. According to the Japanese Wind Power Association, the country plans to install 11 Gigawatts (GW) of wind power by 2020 and 50 GW by 2050. At the end of 2011, the country had only installed a total of 2,5 GW wind power capacity.
