HAWE Hydraulik at HusumWindEnergy 2012: Focus on modular construction

HAWE Hydraulik SE, Munich, is presenting hydraulic controls for wind turbines at the HusumWindEnergy 2012.

These controls are available as modular units and with components “from the construction kit”. For manufacturers of wind turbines this provides high-quality but cost-attractive solutions. The modular construction also meets manufacturers’ demands for technical flexibility combined with ease of handling.

Modular construction means that each hydraulic function is presented in a module, for example for the rotor brake, tower rotation brake, rotor blocking, as well as for the pitch adjustment of the rotor blades, nacelle roof opening or for permanently installed on-board handling cranes. The function modules are mounted on a valve control block which only includes pressure reducing valve and pressure resistant filter and provides facility for connecting the hydraulic consumers. This is built directly onto the hydraulic power pack. It is possible to add or remove functions retroactively without great effort.

For its showing at the HusumWindEnergy 2012, HAWE Hydraulik has prepared a plexiglass model that illustrates the modular construction of a valve control block particularly effectively. There is also a new module for rotor blocking on view, as well as a function module with pressure reducing and safety valve function for the rotor brake, and compact power packs for the pressurized oil supply. The exhibition model of a wind turbine shows a power pack of the type used for the rotor and tower rotation brake in its original size.

The controls are suitable for wind turbines with a rated capacity from 10 kW to several megawatts. Hydraulic solutions are particularly efficient in large turbines thanks to their high power density. HAWE Hydraulik manufactures all pressurized parts from steel which allows a compact construction and gives the components strength and durability. Since the components are also designed for higher pressures than is required in wind turbines, this gives them an exceptionally long service life.
