Wind Industry Profile of

This week: Test series for special clamps in wind power stations

New technologies frequently make challenging demands on the relevant vendor parts; for example, on the cable fastenings in wind power towers.

The enormous weight of the cables must be securely fixed to the walls of the tower, giving rise to numerous questions: What is the optimal clamp spacing, is the substructure stable enough, and are the fastening elements used by the customer strong enough? Can the design engineer be certain that the topmost fastener will bear the overall weight during the erection of the tower, and will the clamp hold the cable in place without damaging the insulation, even if different cable materials are utilised?

Over the years, Walter Stauffenberg have gained a high degree of expertise in the development of special clamps and can provide the answers to these questions. The characteristic values for each specific application are ascertained and analysed in our in-house test lab in close cooperation with the customer. Among other things, the ideal torque for tightening the screws is measured and tested. A tensile strength test rig is then used to determine the maximum retention force the clamp can achieve with the specified screw tightening torque. In addition, the axial and radial retention forces are also measured. The measured values are entered in a log which is made available to the customer. Visitors to the the HusumWindEnergy Trade Fair will find out further details in Hall 1, Stand F04.
