Molins de Vent TARRAGÓ: Windmills to improve biodiversity in Sweden

Montblanc, 04.10.2011. Molins de Vent TARRAGÓ has started beginning of this summer a collaboration with Accio AB, a Swedish engineering consulting company, where ACCIO AB assumes the commercialization, installation and service of windmills in the Scandinavian market.

First installation under this agreement has been commissioned these days in Gotland. The purpose of the installation is to increment biodiversity in the area. The M4015 pumps water from a channel with a capacity of 66.000 m3 and 1,5 meters depth into a surface of 228.000 m2. Currently, the water from the channel has a too high amount of nutrients as a result of the affluent drains of the surrounding agricultural areas.

By pumping water into the wet bride area, the concentration of nutrients decreases, new flora and animals like frogs settle down and migratory birds find a place to feed. Accio AB provides a turn-key solution to its clients from the engineering till operation. Additionally to environmental studies, concept design and equipment installation, Accio AB is specialized in heating and cooling systems for buildings using ground water typically between 65 to 150 meters depth wells.

Sweden, rich in hydropower (50,8% of the total power generation) and dominant nuclear power generation (43% of the total) – and only 2.163 MW per 2010 (Source: GWEC) - , uses in a modest portion wind energy. The four windmills TARRAGÓ installed until today, which surely will be followed up by further installations, contribute together with the large wind on- and offshore energy potential of Sweden, to diversify the energy mix of this country.
