Germany - PowerWind concludes framework agreement for PowerWind 500
PowerWind GmbH has concluded a framework agreement with the British investment company Albion Ventures LLP and their partner for this project: Infinite Energy, a Welsh based developer, for the delivery of several wind turbines of the PowerWind 500 type.
As early as in February 2012, the first turbine will be installed in Ebbw Vale/Wales. The German manufacturer's short delivery times and a product technology that is tailor-made for the British market were decisive factors for the contract award. Wind farms with up to 500 kW output benefit from the British feed-in tariff. PowerWind 500 is operated with an original 500-kW generator and not – like products by other suppliers – with a throttled generator. Therefore operators can expect a high approval probability.
Michael Kaplan, partner at Albion Ventures, confirms this: "For our projects we need modern and reliable turbines that generate high energy yields. We are pleased to have found a manufacturer in PowerWind who is able to fulfil this need. It was an important argument for our technical experts that PowerWind offers a turbine with a 500-kW generator and not a throttled version of a more powerful turbine."
Beginning of a partnership:
The rotors of the PowerWind 500 turbine with a diameter of 56 metres are extraordinarily large for this performance class and generate significantly higher energy yields at lower rotor speeds than comparable turbines on the market. This also reduces the sound levels. The wind turbine operates at a low noise level and is therefore also suitable for locations in the immediate vicinity of residential areas. For Marilyn Heib, Team Leader International Sales at PowerWind, the framework agreement marks the beginning of a long-term partnership: "We are pleased that with Albion Ventures, we were able to win over one of the most important players for 500-kW projects in the market."
The customer Albion Ventures is an independent investment company which has already re-ceived awards for its performance. It currently manages £235 million in nine funds. Albion is targeting 15 percent of their portfolio invested in renewable-energy projects. This makes Albion Ventures one of the most important players in this fund market inthe UK. Having invested in solar energy and biogas to date, the company will now extend their renewable energy invest-ment to wind farms in the performance range of 100 kW to 5 MW. The focus will be on projects up to 500 kW.
To ensure a quick and successful implementation of these projects, the investor cooperates with leading design engineers and is currently setting up a team of best-in-industry partner compa-nies. For PowerWind, the framework agreement with Albion Ventures marks its entry into a lu-crative market segment. Further contract negotiations for deliveries of PowerWind 500 by March 2012 are about to be completed.
About PowerWind GmbH:
PowerWind GmbH is a German manufacturer of onshore wind turbines (500 kW, 850 kW, 900 kW and 2500 kW) and a service provider, focusing on community-scale projects. Such wind farms have a capaci-ty of one to 30 MW and are most frequently marked by local ownership structures. The produced energy is often consumed in the direct vicinity of the turbines. Typical community-scale customers are, for example, medium-sized industrial companies, regional project developers, agricultural businesses, municipalities, local utilities, citizen-owned wind farms, schools, universities and recreational facilities. PowerWind is financed by the US investor Warburg Pincus and has successfully implemented projects in seven countries since the company was founded in 2007.
