REpower and Denker & Wulf sign contract about 74.8 MW for wind farm project in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

Hamburg, September 27, 2010. Together with the North German wind farm project developer Denker & Wulf AG, REpower Systems AG (WKN 617703) has signed a contract for the delivery of 22 wind turbines to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The REpower 3.4M104 turbines, each with a rated output of 3.4 megawatts (MW), are planned for the Hohen Luckow project southwest of Rostock and are to be constructed by summer 2012. It is the first major project in which REpower installs this turbine type with a hub height of 128 meters and a concrete and steel hybrid tower. With this new version a higher energy output is achieved at inland sites, which leads to an improved efficiency at locations with low wind speeds.

The 22 turbines for the Hohen Luckow wind farm have a total rated output of 74.8 MW. In addition to delivering and installing the turbines, REpower will be responsible for servicing and maintaining them. It is for this that REpower and Denker & Wulf have concluded a contract for an integrated service package (ISP) with a 15-year term.

Following the signing of the contracts, Jens Müller-Nielsen, Managing Director of REpower Systems GmbH said: “This order is a huge success for REpower’s operations in Germany. The recent opening of our German subsidiary signaled our intention to further strengthen our position on the domestic market. For the German market Hohen Luckow is an extremly large-scale project. The signing of the supply contract illustrates that, with the REpower 3.4M104, we have a very attractive turbine type in our product portfolio.” The long-term partnership with Denker & Wulf AG, which has already been behind numerous successful projects in the past, is confirmed with this project. “We look forward to working together”, says Müller-Nielsen.

With more than 730 MW of installed wind energy output, Denker & Wulf is among Germany’s leading wind farm project developers and also specializes in operational management and repowering. Torsten Levsen, CEO of Denker & Wulf AG: “It was particularly important for us to choose the most powerful turbine of its kind for such a large-scale project and we are confident that we have found the right partner in REpower.”

Since 2001 REpower Systems AG has constructed 960 wind turbines on the German market with a total output of more than 1,620 MW. From October 1, 2010, the fully owned subsidiary REpower Systems GmbH will bundle sales, project management and service for the core markets of Germany and Austria. Thanks to greater transparency and the bundling of divisions, REpower Systems GmbH is looking to help strengthen the company’s position on these growth markets in a sustainable manner over the next few years.
