Company Information about Hansen Transmissions International nv

Hansen Transmissions International is an established global wind turbine gearbox and industrial gearbox designer, manufacturer and supplier. The company is an industry leader in the global multi-MW wind turbine gearbox market in terms of MW supplied. Hansen supplies gearboxes to the world’s major manufacturers of gear-driven wind turbines and provides durable gear drives for a wide range of industrial applications throughout the world.

Accounting for over 50% of the global installed capacity of (gear-driven) wind power, these key customers incorporate the company’s highly efficient and reliable gearboxes into multi-MW wind turbines, deployed across the globe in high-profile onshore and offshore wind farm projects. Hansen Transmissions exports as much as 99% of its output across the globe. Hansen Transmissions currently operates 4 state-of-the-art manufacturing plants. Its first Belgian facility at Edegem mainly manufactures industrial gearboxes, whereas the company’s 3 other operations (Lommel-Belgium, Coimbatore-India and Tianjin-China are entirely dedicated to wind turbine gearbox manufacturing.

In keeping pace with projected growth in the global wind energy market, Hansen Transmissions has initiated a comprehensive manufacturing investment at its 3 windpower-dedicated factories to ramp up total wind turbine gearbox manufacturing capabilities to a hefty 14,300 MW in financial year 2013. Its fully integrated Lommel plant, purpose-built in 2004 for serial manufacturing of large wind turbine gearboxes, is considered the world’s most advanced facility in its kind. The test facility at this 6000 MW-capacity plant is home to one of the world’s largest dynamic test rigs with a 13.2 MW capacity, allowing Highly Accelerated Life Tests (HALT) to validate pre-construction design assumptions.

In 2008, the Lommel plant was awarded the ISO 14001 certification for its environmental management system (EMS) and the company is determined to win similar certifications for all of its production plants. The facility also holds SA 8000 certification for maintaining socially acceptable workplace practices. Both Hansen’s wind energy and industrial activities have established dedicated international sales & service networks. Strong in-house R&D operations maintain Hansen’s technological leadership and the Company employs approximately 2,200 people worldwide.
