Vestas receives 250 MW order for Colorado, USA

Vestas has received an order from Renewable Energy Systems Americas Inc. (RES Americas) for 139 V90-1.8 MW turbines for the Cedar Point Wind project located primarily in Lincoln and Elbert Counties, Colorado, USA.

Construction of Cedar Point Wind is underway with commercial operation expected in 2011. Once completed, Cedar Point Wind will be the second largest wind project in Colorado.

“Cedar Point Wind will benefit Colorado in two ways - by supplying clean energy to Colorado homes under a 20-year power purchase agreement with Public Service Company of Colorado and by providing employment in the form of up to 200 new construction jobs with more jobs to follow once construction is complete,” said Martha Wyrsch, President of Vestas Americas. “We are extremely pleased to work
with Public Service Company of Colorado (PSCo), an Xcel Energy Company, to deliver turbines made from our factories in Windsor, Brighton and Pueblo, Colorado.”

Vestas recently opened three manufacturing facilities in Colorado to provide wind turbines for North American customers: a blades factory in Windsor, a nacelles-assembly factory in Brighton, and a towers manufacturing facility — the world's largest — in Pueblo. A second blades factory is planned for 2011 in Brighton.

RES Americas, based in Broomfield, Colorado, is a fully-integrated renewable energy company that develops, constructs, owns and operates projects across North and South America. RES Americas has constructed/under construction more than 4,500 MW, which represent approximately 10 per cent of the operating installed wind capacity in the USA. Furthermore, RES Americas has over 12,500 MW in development.

“RES Americas remains committed to the state of Colorado, working with local companies such as Vestas and PSCo on the Cedar Point Wind project, to bring renewable energy and economic opportunities for the community,” said Brian Evans, Executive Vice President, Development of RES Americas. “We are eager to help meet the state's goal of providing a cleaner, more secure energy future.”
