Wind energy is said to be key to solving China's energy shortage
China has abundant wind energy reserve which could be vital to properly solve the country's energy issue, Green Peace said Saturday in a research report jointly issued by the organization and Europe Wind Energy Association and China Renewable Industry Association. The report, named as Wind Force 12, predicted that China's wind energy reserve would surpass the total amount of China's current power generation, as well as that in the future decades.
Furthermore, in the year of 2020, China's electricity generated by wind energy would possibly reach 14 percent of the global wind energy output, the report forecast. According to the statistics provided by the Green Peace in the report, the generation cost of the electricity by wind energy was 823 euro per kw in 2002, and it would decrease to 504 euro in 2020. Despite of huge wind energy reserve, the future development of China's electricity generation by wind energy still faces obstacles, such as the high risk of commercial development and difficulty in integrating to the national power network, the report said.
China has taken substantial measures to promote commercial development of wind energy utilization, according to a source with the Green Peace. She told Xinhua that China has taken the promotion of the renewable energy as one of the basic national policies and a relevant law was currently under drafting.
