REpower wins 30 MW contract with E.ON
Hamburg / Edinburgh, 9 December 2009. REpower UK, a wholly owned subsidiary of REpower Systems AG (WKN 617703), has won its second major contract with E.ON Climate and Renewables in the UK to develop two new wind farms in County Durham in the North East of England. The sites located at Butterwick Moor and Haswell Moor will consist of 15 turbines, specification MM82 with a rated power of 2,050 kW each. Together, they will produce 30.75 MW of clean power, enough energy for 17,000 homes.
The first turbine will be installed in July of next year at the Haswell site where five of the 15 turbines will be located. Both sites will be fully operational by the end of 2010, bringing REpower to half a gigawatt (500 MW) of installed capacity in the UK. Per Hornung Pedersen, CEO of REpower Systems AG, commented: “We are happy to announce this second contract with E.ON right after the signature of our joint ‘repowering’ project in September and we are looking forward to further collaboration. The UK is one of the most important markets for REpower and has excellent future and growth prospects.”
Rick Eggleston, Managing Director, REpower UK, adds: “Having just started to work with E.ON in the UK on an upgrading project, we’re delighted to be successful in winning this significant contract to supply wind turbines to two new sites in County Durham. It’s an area we know well having constructed some five different projects there over the years so we are used to the terrain and environment.” The latest technology turbines will be transported by sea from their manufacturing base in Husum, Northern Germany.
REpower UK is the third largest supplier of wind energy in Great Britain. The award winning company, founded in 2003, has a team of 65 people based in Edinburgh and across the UK. The company recently celebrated installing 300 MW of energy since the business began. This has been delivered through 22 onshore wind farms in Scotland, England and Wales, and one offshore wind farm, project Beatrice in the North Sea, where two 5M turbines were installed. REpower’s 5M machine and its upgrade, the REpower 6M, are counted among the most powerful offshore wind turbines in the world.
REpower UK is wholly owned by REpower Systems AG which operates in 11 countries worldwide.
