Vestas receives order for 228 MW in Romania

Vestas has received an order for a total of 76 units of the V90-3.0 MW turbine for two projects in Romania. The contract comprises supply, installation, a VestasOnline® Business SCADA solution, as well as a five-year service agreement. The first turbines are expected to be installed by the end of 2009.

The order has been placed by EDP Renováveis that is currently the third largest wind energy oper ator in Europe and the fourth largest operator in the world.

At the customer's request, details about the name of the project cannot be disclosed.

“We are very pleased with this order from EDP Renováveis, which is the result of a well-esta- blished relationship between the two companies. In the currently challenging economic and finan cial scenario, it is very important to receive this sign of confidence in our products and our technology from a leading company like EDP Renováveis,” says Juan Araluce, President of Vestas
Mediterranean. “Our global key account team in Vestas Mediterranean has been working very closely with other units in the Vestas organisation, including Vestas Central Europe and Vestas Americas to deliver the best solution to EDP Renováveis. We are very glad to collaborate with EDP Reno váveis worldwide and to support directly their activities in the development of the wind energy industry across countries,” emphasises Juan Araluce.

“By the end of 2008, Romania had a total installed wind capacity of 76 MW1 World Market Update 2008, BTM Consult. This is an important project for the Romanian market, and together with EDP Renováveis we look forward to contributing to expanding the wind capacity in this country,” says Hans Jørn Rieks, President of Vestas Central Europe.

The total annual production of the two wind power plants will save the environment from more than 195,500 tons of CO2 emissions per year.

The above order does not affect the Vestas Group's expectations for 2009, cf.company announcement No. 4/2009 of 11 February 2009.
