The Future is Made of Ideas. Power Converter Included.
At the Hannover Messe 2009 trade fair, PCS from Hennigsdorf will present itself to the wind industry: As a company with technological competence in the areas of regenerative energy, industry, and railways. The joint booth that PCS shares with windmesse.de is located in Hall 27, Booth F19, integrated into the new “Wind” key trade fair.
Hennigsdorf, 2009-03-25 - PCS is a medium-sized member company of Bombardier Transportation, the global market leader in railway technology. For decades, PCS has developed, produced, and delivered highly reliable BOMBARDIER MITRAC* power converters and electrical equipment for deployment in rail vehicles. A few years ago, PCS began to expand its business activity in the direction of power converters for highly dynamic test benches, specific industrial applications, and wind parks. PCS power converters help to operate wind parks in economically and technically advanced ways. Today, PCS offers everything that a modern power converter needs: User-friendly design, optimal open-loop and closed-loop engineering technology, real and simulated test runs, comprehensive project management, and all-round service.
A Young Company with a Wealth of Experience
As a subsidiary of Bombardier Transportation, PCS has a close affinity to all things rail-bound. As early as 1945, electrical equipment for rail vehicles were developed, tested and manufactured by us. With the expansion of its business areas, PCS has made the know-how and experience it gained from projects of any scale available to other industrial sectors. Since 2008, we have stimulated the energy debate with fresh impulses: Under the new name of PCS, we have been adding technological momentum to wind energy by providing power converters of peak efficiency and tested highly reliable quality. Today, about 800 wind turbine facilities are already using the power conversion technology of PCS.
PCS Green Line for Efficient Wind Turbines
At Hannover Messer 2009, we will present our PCS Green Line family of power converters for wind turbines. Thus, PCS serves both of the two dominating system concepts in wind turbines: systems with double fed asynchronous generators, and systems with synchronous generators. Since PCS power converters have both proven themselves under the tough conditions of rail deployment, and satisfy the highly dynamic requirements of the industry, they provide the ideal systemic preconditions for transforming wind on land (on-shore) and under rough marine conditions (off-shore) reliably into electric energy. Performance classes from 1.0 MW to 3.5 MW are available. Their modular setup and standardized design permit a high level of flexibility and options for expansions – for instance through parallel connections. PCS power converters come in air-cooled and liquid-cooled variants.
PCS Green Line 1000 Keeps Yours Plant in the Grid
The new German Renewable Energies Act (EEG 2009) is the first legal code to specify the technical requirements for the grid integration of wind turbines. It is intended to set minimum standards for improved grid integration and for the behavior of wind turbines during downtimes. The wind energy industry's need for an innovative, reliable solution prompted PCS to develop the Green Line 1000 series. This specific power converter is engineered in such a way as to provide a reactive current to bridge voltage drops at the supply terminal of the wind turbine. The Green Line 1000 keeps the wind turbine connected to the supply even during voltage drops, and thus ensures that grid connection requirements are met.
PCS at “Wind”, the New Key Trade Fair
Within the framework of the 2009 Hannover Messe, the new key trade fair “Wind” will take place for the first time. PCS will present itself here in Hall 27, Booth F19, a joint booth its shares with windmesse.de, with staff from the sales and engineering divisions available for inquiries and talks. An exhibit from the wind power sector will be on display, offering curious visitors a hands-on experience of the PCS Green Line.
