USA - Wind-power firm sees added growth
Flagstaff manufacturer Southwest Windpower said it will increase production and distribution of its turbines in order to meet growing overseas demand in the Chinese and European markets. As part of the plan, the company announced a joint venture with a Chinese company and a new office in Germany.
Officials with Southwest Windpower, which calls itself the world's largest manufacturer of small wind generators, say they are anticipating sales to grow 90 to 100 percent in 2009.
The company, which employs about 100 in Flagstaff, said it has had record-breaking sales this year.
Southwest Windpower will partner with Yun Sheng, a manufacturing company that has been producing component parts for several Southwest Windpower products for the last four years, to produce a 400-watt wind generator beginning in early 2009.
The company said its first European office in Cologne, Germany, will manage sales, shipping and distribution of its products across Europe.
