Spain - Gamesa Corporación Tecnológica joins forces with Fundación Entorno-BCSD España to consolidate sustainable development within the company

Aim is to drive forward its sustainability strategy and share experiences and knowledge with other Member Companies, which now number 28 with this new incorporation

Gamesa Corporación Tecnológica and Fundación Entorno–BCSD España have today entered into agreement by means of which the leading company in the manufacture, distribution and installation of renewable energy solutions comes to form part of the Foundation’s group of Member Companies.

The agreement sets out the collaboration between both organizations to conduct joint activities in the field of Sustainable Development with the final objective of consolidating the company’s leadership in this matter through the start-up of informative, dissemination, training, study and research actions.

Thus, Gamesa Corporación Tecnológica will come to form part of the Work Groups led by Fundación Entorno BCSD-España on specific aspects of Sustainable Development, such as Energy and Climate Change, Sustainable Construction, Ecosystems and the Role of Businesses in Society.

All these work groups are under the aegis of the Work Groups led at a global level by the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), the leading international organization that groups together more than 200 companies and of which Fundación Entorno-BCSD España is its Spanish partner.

According to Gamesa’s Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Michaela O’Donohoe, “This new alliance constitutes a milestone that reinforces our vision of Gamesa Corporación Tecnológica as a leading firm in sustainability, technology, quality and business leadership matters. We wish to attain a more human business model, which is why Corporate Social Responsibility forms part of Gamesa's DNA irrespective of the economic situation".

“At the same time, it consolidates our positioning as a company that is sensitive to the impacts our activity may cause in our communities and in the planet. It also strengthens our commitment to corporate responsibility and reputation, as has been recognized by the Ethibel, FTSE4Good and Dow Jones sustainability indexes”, she added.

For her part, Cristina García-Orcoyen, Fundación Entorno-BCSD España’s Managing Director, stated that companies like Gamesa joining the foundation showed a “more advanced, more visionary outlook, and they take one more step towards consolidating an essential idea: successfully facing the challenges set by Sustainable Development is part and parcel of business leadership”.

With Gamesa Corporación Tecnológica's incorporation, Fundación Entorno-BCSD España now has twenty-eight Member Companies. These include: Acciona, Adif, Aena, Bancaja Hábitat, Campofrío, Cementos Portland Valderrivas, Cemex España, Consulnima, Dow Chemical, Elcogas, Endesa, Ericsson, Gas Natural, Grupo Ence, Grupo Eroski, Grupo Solvay, Grupo SOS, Holcim, Iberdrola Inmobiliaria, IBM, Metro de Madrid, OHL, Red Eléctrica de España, Repsol, Sol Meliá, Tragsatec and Unilever Spain.
