USA - SaskPower inks deal with Red Lily Wind Power LP
With a thriving provincial economy and an increasing need for power, SaskPower has finalized an agreement with Red Lily Wind Power LP, represented by its general partner Gaia Power — Algonquin Power Inc., to purchase power from a 25-megawatt (MW) wind power facility.
Following the environmental approval process, preliminary construction activities are expected to begin in the fall of 2009. The facility is scheduled to be operational by the end of March 2011. The project was initially selected in 2006 under a previous solicitation to partner with independent power producers to build and operate small-scale generation projects that produce no new greenhouse gas emissions.
“Thanks to unprecedented interest from the private sector in building generation facilities in the province, SaskPower is increasingly able to rely on independent power producers,” said Minister of Crown Corporations Ken Chevel.
