India - WIND INDIA 2008

Chennai Trade Centre, Chennai, on 25–26 November 2008

INTRODUCTION TO WIND INDIA 2008

The first 'WIND INDIA' event was launched by WISE in 2006. Following its resounding success, WISE decided to hold the event on a biennial basis. With the advent of 2008, WISE is proud to announce the second conference-cum-exhibition on wind power, 'WIND INDIA 2008'. The event will be held at the Chennai Trade Centre, Chennai, on 25–26 November 2008.

Globally, wind power is growing at a record rate of more than 26% per annum. As per projections made by the Global Wind Energy Council, more than 150 GW capacity is expected to be added to the existing 100 GW installed capacity within the next 5 years. The size of the global annual wind market is expected to reach a new high of 35 GW–50 GW by 2012, equalling an investment of over 277 billion (as per market value in 2007).

Of the existing 9 GW total wind power installations in India, more than 5.2 GW has been added during the last three years. th India has continued to retain its 4 position in the global market, both in annual as well as cumulative installations. If policy initiatives such as the renewable energy law, production tax credit, generation-based incentives, etc., are set in motion, it is projected that the Indian wind market will grow to 5 GW per year within the next five years. Further more, besides the 9 existing wind turbine manufacturers, at least ten more are poised to enter the market, taking annual manufacturing capacity to 10,000 MW in the next two to three years. Like China, India too will emerge as an Asian giant in wind turbine manufacturing.

WIND INDIA 2008 would witness the participation of more than 500 delegates, 60 exhibitors, and more than 50 national and global speakers. The conference will be packed with highly informative and interactive sessions on all cutting-edge issues on wind power investment, development, manufacturing, policy, etc. The WIND INDIA 2008 exhibition would bring together the best players from the global wind arena. State-of-the-art exhibits, product launching events by both Indian and global wind turbine manufacturers, component makers, etc., would be key features
