Vestas signs contract for 102 MW in Italy
Vestas has received an order for 26 V90-1.8 MW, 5 V90-3.0 MW, and 20 V90-2.0 MW turbines to be installed in Italy across the regions of Apulia and Molise. The order comprises supply and installation of the turbines, a VestasOnline™ Business SCADA system as well as a two-year service agreement.
The order has been placed by IVPC Power 5, the project company of IVPC, a well-known customer of Vestas, which with an accumulated wind power capacity of 28 per cent by December 20071 Source: www.enea.it ranks among the most important wind power producers in Italy.
“We are very pleased to announce the signing of this new contract and to reaffirm our working relationship with IVPC,” says Juan Araluce, President of Vestas Mediterranean A/S, and continues: “Vestas is playing an important role in the development of wind power in Italy. The Italian market is the seventh largest market in the world as regards installed wind power capacity in 2007, and the seventh largest market as regards cumulative installed wind power capacity by the end of 20072 International Wind Energy Development, World Market Update 2007, BTM Consult, and we hope to continue contributing to this sustainable growth,” concludes Juan Araluce.
62 MW of this new order will be installed in the region of Apulia, which is one of the windiest regions in Italy. By 31 December 2007, Vestas had already installed around 350 MW in the Apulia region. The remaining 40 MW will be installed in the Molise region, where Vestas had an accumulated installed capacity of around 75 MW by 31 December 2007.
With a total estimated annual production of approx 326 GWh/year, the new projects will be able to satisfy the energy needs of 136,000 Italian households and will save the environment from almost 148,000 tons of CO2.
Delivery for the projects is scheduled to start during the first half of 2009, and the projects will be completed by the end of the same year.
The above order does not affect the Vestas Group's expectations for 2008, cf. Company announcement No. 40/2008 of 15 August 2008.
