India - ONGC’s wind farm project
In another distinction, State-run Oil and Natural Gas Corporation’s (ONGC) maiden renewable energy venture, a wind farm project having world’s highest turbine capacity, was launched on Saturday at Bhuj in Gujarat. The 50 MW turnkey project comprises a 34-unit farm where each wind turbine generator (WTG) unit is capable of generating 1.5 MW, highest in the world. The wind farm has been set up by ONGC at an investment of around Rs. 308 crore.
Work on this project has been executed by leading wind energy company Suzlon.
Speaking on the occasion, ONGC Chairman, R. S. Sharma, said it was a pilot project and ONGC had grand plans for renewable and alternative energy.
He said ONGC had set up an Energy Centre with substantial investment for promoting alternative energy sources. “ONGC remains committed to contribute to the nation in general and Gujarat in particular,” he added.
Country President of Suzlon, Rohit Modi, said the presence of almost all directors of ONGC was a testimony of the company’s commitment to green energy. Suzlon is developing a 2 MW unit for onshore and a 5 MW unit for offshore.
