HUSUM WindEnergy 2008: REpower Systems AG unveils new onshore wind turbine REpower 3.XM
Hamburg, 4 September 2008. At this year’s HUSUM WindEnergy, one of the most important wind energy trade fairs (scheduled to take place 9 to 13 September), REpower Systems AG (WKN 617703) will be unveiling its new onshore wind turbine of the 3 megawatt class: the REpower 3.XM. On a two-storey trade fair stand, measuring 400 m2 in size, the company will be exhibiting a full-scale replica of the nacelle as well as news regarding the REguard wind farm management system.
With the development of the 3.XM, REpower Systems AG, leading manufacturer of onshore and offshore wind turbines, is building on the experience which it has gained from erecting more than 1,400 turbines of the MD/MM platform (1.5 or 2 MW output). REpower’s CEO Per Hornung Pedersen is very happy to be able to unveil the new turbine in Husum for the first time: “With the 3.XM, we are combining the advantages of the existing REpower products in an ideal manner to close the gap between our bestsellers, the 2 MW turbines, and our powerful offshore turbines. HUSUM WindEnergy as the leading industry trade fair offers the right platform for the premiere of this technologically highly advanced wind turbine.”
Matthias Schubert, the company’s CTO, adds: “While designing the REpower 3.XM - with a rated output of 3.3 MW and a rotor diameter of 104 metres – we paid special attention to fulfil the typical REpower quality: reliability, high technical availability and maximum energy yield. During development, the focus was also placed on noise emissions which are as low as possible – this was achieved by means of the rotor blade developed by the company itself.” He concludes, “It is very easy to service due to the generous design of the system and this, together with optimised accessibility to the components, give the product a further competitive edge.”
During the design stage, care was taken to ensure that the product could be transported and assembled using the same equipment as is the case for systems from the 2 MW class. The prototype of the REpower 3.XM is to be assembled in a Husum wind farm, Südermarsch, in the coming weeks. Manufacturing will commence shortly in Bremerhaven, where REpower will initially commence serial production of the offshore turbines REpower 5M and 6M. In the long term, the plan is to build a new factory for the REpower 3.XM in Osterrönfeld, in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district of Schleswig-Holstein.
In addition to the new turbine, REpower, Germany’s third-largest wind turbine manufacturer, will also be unveiling new features for the REguard wind farm management system at its trade fair stand. Three interfaces have recently become available which permit a REpower wind farm to be integrated with modern panel systems and SCADA third-party systems. This is particularly important for energy suppliers who already own such systems and who operate power plants (wind, nuclear, gas and coal-fired power plants) from all manufacturers.
Further information about the REpower 3.XM will be available online from 9 September at www.repower.de.
